Clarendon United Methodist Music Program
The Adult Choir
The Adult Choir, under the direction of Dr. J. Reilly Lewis, serves as the musical worship leaders at the 11 AM Traditional Worship Service. Besides leading the congregation in the hymns, the choir usually presents an anthem during the service. The Adult Choir has joined with other local church choirs to present larger cantatas over the past several years. Special musical celebrations during Advent and Easter are also performed.
For over 30 years, the Adult Choir has spearheaded the celebration of George Frederick Handel's Messiah with a Sing-Along. The Christmas Portion (Part I) is presented on the Sunday after Thanksgiving and Parts II and III are sung on Easter Sunday evening. Each Sing-Along begins at 7:30 PM, with a pre-concert at 7:00. These events are free, but donations are accepted. Child care is provided.
The Adult Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM from mid-September through mid-June. The Summer Choir meets at 10:30 AM Sunday mornings. This more informal group welcomes singers who cannot make the time commitment for weekly rehearsals. New members are always welcome.
Celebration Singers
The Celebration Singers, directed by Lisa Gibbs-Smith, provide special music for the 8:30am Arise! Service every six weeks. This adult vocal ensemble is perfectly suited for those who want to sing but don't have as much time in their schedule. The focus is on contemporary music accompanied by piano and/or the Clarendon Praise Band. All levels of experience are welcome! Digital audio files of individual voice parts are provided for reinforcement outside of rehearsals, which are every other week. This versatile ensemble shares their gifts in other venues as well including: weddings, funerals, prayer services, fellowship events, and more. We have a lot of fun! For more information contact Lisa Gibbs-Smith.
The Summer Choir
From mid-June through mid-September, the Adult Choir becomes the Summer Choir. Please join us in the Choir Room on Sunday mornings at 10:30 AM to rehearse the anthem for that day's service as well as upcoming music.
